MedBil Technologies (MBT) began life in 1983 as G. S. Hall & Associates, in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Founded by Gary S. Hall, a corporate controller/computer programmer, it began with the design of a billing system for a small Orthopedic Surgery Center.

By 1984, the billing system was developed, and MedBil began to be sold to other offices.  You can see the original main menu from MedBil version 1 here:

In 1985, with several I.P.A.'s in the Utah area, MBT started a secondary branch of MedBil, which performed insurance adjudication from burgeoning H.M.O.'s.

MedBil stayed consistent through most of the 1980's, available only in UNIX.  In 1989, however, MBT first began development of a version that would work in MS-DOS™ as a business environment.  MBT also began development of a version of MedBil that would work for large and varied practices, as well as billing and management companies, which allowed multiple practices and specialties.

In 1989, MedBil was chosen to test the first electronic claims filing by U.H.I.N. (Utah Health Information Network).  MedBil has had the ability to file claims electronically since that time in all versions.

MedBil 2 was released in 1992 as the first major revision of the software in almost 10 years.  It was still UNIX based, but by early 1993 an MS-DOS™ and Novell Netware™ version was in development.  During 1994 MedBil 3 was released, usable in both Windows™ and Novel networks.

With the advent of Windows 95™, another major revision of MedBil was started, and in 1996 MedBil 4 was released, the first true version of MedBil for the Windows environment.  This replaced both the old UNIX version and the MS-DOS™ versions.  By 1998 all of those versions had been replaced or upgraded.

S.I.S.  became a dream in the summer of 1997 when MedBil 5 development was started.  By spring of 1999 the first systems were in place and being tested.  By this time, MBT had expanded beyond Utah and was transmitting electronically through the internet.

MBT moved its corporate offices from Salt Lake City, Utah to the sunny climate of St. George, Utah ("the other Palm Springs") in August of 1999.
